MenÂs Track & Field Readies For WHAC Championships
The Mustangs were paced by another stellar effort from sophomore leader Robert Crockett (Detroit, Mich./King). Crockett would cross the finish line at 4:28.38 in the 1500m run â the first of two events for the sophomore on the afternoon. Later, Crockett dashed into 25th place in a loaded field with an 800m time of 2:05.65. The time topped a few other runners in the field and was good for his best outdoor time of his sophomore campaign.
Jalen Wilson (Detroit, Mich./CMA) had a successful day in the 200m dash after placing 22nd and toppling a NCAA opponent with a time of 24.64. Akil Prowell (Detroit, Mich./Crockett) and Jonathan Rutkowski (Riverview, Mich./Gabriel Richard) each toed the line in the 3,000 meter run and finished in 16th and 17th place with times of 10:14.86 and 11:51.28 respectively.
Prowell’s time tied a previous mark set during the indoor season at Grand Valley State University.
On May 3, the Mustangs will invade Grand Rapids for a shot at individual titles in their inaugural WHAC Outdoor Championship. The event will take place at Houseman Field hosted by Aquinas College. More information regarding the 2013 WHAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships can be found here.
