Mustangs Put Forth Strong All-Around Effort At SVSU
The Mustangs ran out three strong runners in the one mile event led by senior Anthony Butler (Lincoln Park, Mich./Roosevelt). Butler, flanked by sophomores Robert Crockett (Detroit, Mich./King) and Akil Prowell (Detroit, Mich./Crockett), entered the one mile event after a strong cross country season mixed into preseason track conditioning.
Crockett would lead all Mustangs in the one mile by nipping Butler and Prowell with a time of 5:03. Butler would come in at 5:10, while Prowell worked his way to getting his legs underneath him with a time of 5:31.
In the 800m, track & field newcomer Gaoussou Cisse (Southfield, Mich./Lathrup) raced his way to a two-minute-twenty-eight-second time.
Changing pace, two Mustangs entered the 200m event when freshmen Franz Beauregard (Detroit, Mich./Macomb CC) and Lovell Walker (Detroit, Mich./Allen Academy) lined up against the NCAA Division II competition. Walker would finish three seconds off the first place pace with a 26.21, while Beauregard clocked in at 27.68. The pair would finish seventh and eighth respectively.
Beauregard would later finish the 400m with a time of 1:08.
In the 3000m run, Prowell hit stride for a seventh place finish after crossing the line at 10:47. Freshman Jonathon Rutkowski (Riverview, Mich./Gabriel Richard) finished ninth after clocking in at 11:55.
Lining up in their only relay event in the 4×400, teammates Butler, Crockett, George Jackson (Detroit, Mich./Mumford), and Jalen Wilson (Detroit, Mich./CMA), toppled two other teams to finish fourth overall. The foursome finished the 4×400 in 3:39, twelve seconds off the lead.
The Mustangs return to the track next week at the annual Mike Lints Open at Grand Valley State University.
