Ninth Place Finish Caps Off First WHAC Season

Once again, the Mustangs were led by Shana DeVoe (Ortonville, Mich./Brandon). The senior, running in the final NAIA race of her career, finished in 37th place after crossing the finish line at Riverside Park with a time of 20:38. The senior finished her NAIA career at the top of most-to-all women’s cross country records at Marygrove College.

Next week, DeVoe will run in her final collegiate race as she is set to compete in the 2012 United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Championship Meet. The meet will take place in historic Lake Placid, New York.

DeVoe was followed by Jessica McClendon (Canton, Mich./Madonna University). The two-sport standout finished with a time of 22:34 to finish in 62nd place on her birthday.

Freshman Diamond Easton (Detroit, Mich./Allen Academy) put forth a solid effort to finish in 63rd at 22:51.

Fellow freshman Mercedesz Brown (Redford, Mich./Thurston) crossed the line at 25:10 for 75th place, while senior LaNyck Washington (Detroit, Mich./East Kentwood) finished her final cross country event in 76th place after finishing at 26:46. Devin Willis (Flint, Mich./Carman Ainsworth) rounded out the championship event for the Mustangs in 78th place with a time of 29:23.
