Butler Leads Sixth Place Finish
The Mustangs were led by senior Anthony Butler (Lincoln Park, Mich./Roosevelt). Butler navigated the slick course with an impressive 8K time of 28:49. The time lifted Butler to 39th place in Saturday’s field and was only 41 seconds off the team’s record pace.
Butler was followed by sophomore George Jackson (Detroit, Mich./Mumford) who came in 48th at 30:04. Fellow sophomore Robert Crockett (Detroit, Mich./King) was on Jackson’s heels with a 51st place finish after he crossed the line at 30:33.
Akil Prowell (Detroit, Mich./Crockett) cut quite a bit off his time from last week after finishing in 56th with a time of 31:36.
A trio of Mustangs rounded out the day when Jonathon Rutkowski (Riverview, Mich./Gabriel Richard) led the final three with a time of 32:57 (64th). Newcomer and current basketball student-athlete, Cheikh Ka (Southfield, Mich./Lathrup) finished in 65th with a time of 33:29. Jalen Wilson (Detroit, Mich./CMA) came in just behind Ka in 66th after completing the 8K at 34:42.
The Mustangs will be back on the road Saturday (Oct. 20) in Grand Rapids, Mich. for the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge.
