McClendon Signs, Team Receives Offensive Boost
DETROIT, Mich. — Coach Williams landed another key addition to his 2012 roster with the signing of former Canton High School standout Jessica McClendon.
The signing marks the 12th of the 2012 class for women’s soccer as they near their first season in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC).
McClendon, a 5’2″ skilled forward, brings exceptional speed and talent to the Mustangs attack up front. In 2010, McClendon was named to the All-District team after a successful senior season that eventually helped lead the Canton Chiefs to a conference championship. Most recently, McClendon played for fellow WHAC member and neighbor, Madonna University, before deciding to transfer to Marygrove. In addition to her high school and collegiate playing days, the Canton native kept her skills sharp as a member of the heralded Canton Celtic Soccer Club for many years. In all, McClendon has been playing competitive club soccer for over 12 years.
Coach Williams on McClendon: Jessica has the potential to come in and be a starting forward. Jessica’s ability to make plays could result in a season in which she is our leading goal scorer. Her experience will undoubtedly help our team accomplish our goals during the 2012 campaign. I look forward to coaching Jessica and the rest of the team soon.
