Men’s Lacrosse will be added to the slate of offerings on Marygrove’s northwest Detroit campus in the 2012-13 academic year with varsity competition beginning Fall 2013.
Considered an emerging sport in the NAIA, Men’s Lacrosse comes to the College with an immediate goal of operating as a varsity program. Due to its continued growth, the NAIA will consider lacrosse for conference and national championships in the near future.
In the meantime, Marygrove College will explore possible affiliations with the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) and Central Collegiate Lacrosse Association (CCLA) to name a couple future suitors for the forthcoming program. Gaining membership in the associations will allow Men’s Lacrosse student-athletes to compete for conference and national championships against some familiar opponents within the region and state.
The new program will be complimented by the College’s new outdoor complex that opened for play last year. Currently home to our men’s and women’s soccer programs, the outdoor complex sits on the east side of campus and is home to many unique features.
“We are very pleased to announce the addition of Men’s Lacrosse at Marygrove College,” said athletic director Dave Sichterman. “The addition of the sport highlights Marygrove’s growth and belief that men’s lacrosse needs an added presence in the city of Detroit. With a lack of overall collegiate offerings in our area, we are excited for the many student-athletes who will have another outlet to continue their lacrosse career.”
