Volleyball Heads to Nationals as #7 Seed!
DETROIT, Mich.-The women’s volleyball team is heading to the USCAA National Championship Tournament! Coming off a 9-24 inaugural season, coach Karen Graves hit the recruiting trail adding to her already explosive talent base. The result? A trip to Louisville, KY for a chance at a USCAA title!
The Mustangs entered the 2010 season with the goal of reaching nationals. Months later the goal has been achieved and the team is not going to stop now. After completing a successful 15-27 regular season, the Mustangs are poised to make a title run and shock the USCAA world as the #7 seed.
Starting championship weekend in a pool play format, the Mustangs received the higher #4 seed in the twin five seed pools. Pool play will consist of four best-of-three set matches to determine who will go on to the elimination round. In an attempt to get down to an eight-team quarterfinal bracket, the bottom team in each pool will be sent home before the elimination round begins.
After pool play, the teams will be reseeded and begin the single elimination round. Here is a quick look at the Mustangs pool play schedule.
Marygrove v. Cincinnati-Clermont @ 2:30pm Thursday
Marygrove v. University of Dallas @ 4:00pm Thursday
Marygrove v. Penn State-Mont Alto @ 11:30am Friday
Marygrove v. Florida College @ 1:00pm Friday
The Mustangs are aligned in a tough pool that features some of the USCAA’s finest talent. A couple wins over the course of Thursday & Friday should be enough to propel the Stangs to the elimination round. Keep in mind that instate rival Rochester College earned a #2 seed in the other pool. With that being said, the Mustangs head into this weekend’s national championship with high hopes after nearly defeating Rochester in October.
