DeVoe Tops School Mark in Second Career Race
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.-In only her second career race, sophomore Shana DeVoe attacked the Aquinas College course on her way to shattering the school record. DeVoe’s personal best came against some of the region’s finest talent at the 2010 NAIA Great Lakes Invitational.
With a 5k time of 22:09, DeVoe becomes the leader in the Marygrove record books with only a little over six miles of intercollegiate cross country experience. Maintaining a busy schedule this fall, the two-year varsity women’s soccer player added cross country to her regimen. Last year, DeVoe earned USCAA All-American honors for her fine play in net as the goalkeeper on the Mustangs national championship squad.
DeVoe’s performance was followed by three other Mustangs. Sara Fournier, the only returner from last year’s squad, placed 258th with a time of 25:30. Crystal Macon and Paula Langley (first career race) finished in 267th and 269th place respectively.
