Mustangs Torch Beavers, Win 6-3
BLUFFTON, Ohio-After falling to 3-5 on the season, the young Mustangs looked to strike early and often on the road against NCAA Division 3 opponent, Bluffton University. Fortunately, the Mustangs offense came alive for a 6-3 statement victory.
At 22:49, the Mustangs leading scorer Jordan Berry (Dearborn, Mich./Crestwood) netted a penalty kick goal past the Bluffton Beavers goalie.
Just seven minutes later, Berry would connect again as he took an Ali Fardoun (Dearborn, Mich./Fordson) assist for his second goal (seventh of the season).
The first half would be capped off by a goal in the 43rd minute by feared striker, Jad El-Zein (Dearborn, Mich./Fordson). El-Zein’s goal would put the Stangs on top 3-nill at the break.
In the second half, the Mustangs continued their offensive onslaught with three more goals. Two of those goals were slid past the keeper by El-Zein. The hat trick day lifts El-Zein’s goals total to six on the young season.
The other second half goal was scored by newcomer Asny Gracelien (Miramar, FL/Continental Academy) in the 66th minute. The goal would be Gracelien’s first of his career.
Sophomore Huss Seklawi (Dearborn, Mich./Fordson) tallied two assists on the day to help the Mustangs to the 6-3 victory.
Goalkeeper Alex Dubetz (Royal Oak, Mich./Royal Oak) earned yet another win in net. Sophomore keeper Malcolm Brinker (Plainwell, Mich./Plainwell) came into the game late in the second half to give Dubetz relief.
The Mustangs are off until a Saturday showdown at Siena Heights University. The highly anticipated 3pm kickoff will be a huge indicator of how far the Mustangs have come one year into the young program.
