Defending Champs Take Crimson Wave Crown

HAMMOND, Ind.-Add another trophy to the case! The Mustangs earned their second trophy in as many years this weekend after topping all competition at the 2010 Crimson Wave Invite. The invitational trophy is set to join the Mustangs 2009 USCAA Nat’l Championship Trophy when the team returns to campus.

After a 0-0 stalemate in the first half against the host Crimson Wave, the Mustangs were able to finally climb on top in the championship game with a goal by Nicole Polite (Schoolcraft College/Sterling Heights, Mich.) in the 75th minute. Sarah Kator (Bishop Foley/Madison Heights, Mich.) earned the assist on the play to set up the goal.

Ten minutes later, senior Jonnell Cook (Mary Baldwin College/Novi, Mich.) iced the game with an 85th minute goal off an Ashley Inglsbee (Oakland Community College/Waterford, Mich.) assist. The 2-0 tally would carry to the 90th minute to allow the Mustangs to hoist the 2010 Crimson Wave Invite Trophy in front of their faithful fans that traveled to the greater Chicago area.

Nicole Polite (two goals) was named Tournament MVP. Other Mustangs making the All-Tournament Team were Ana Guerra (Powers Catholic/Flint, Mich.), Ashley Inglsbee and Jessie Niemi. (Swartz Creek HS/Swartz Creek, Mich.)
