Mustangs Rally Falls Short In Series Finale

UTICA, Mich. – The Marygrove College baseball team lost to the Lawrence Tech University Blue Devils today in a WHAC series finale 14-7.

GAME THREE – (LOSS, 14-7)

OVERALL-

The Mustangs (5-22, 4-10 WHAC) trailed two runs in the first inning after Shawn Fannon from LTU hit a 2-run home run over the left-center fence.

In the bottom of the first, Marygrove scored three runs to take the lead 3-2. Richie Velez (SR/Chicago, IL) led it off after he reached on an error by the shortstop. Chase Younkin (SR/Macomb, MI) singled to advance Velez to second base.  Juan Ventura (SR/Lawerence, MA) singled through the left side to score Velez from second base. William Da Costa (FR/Toronto, Ontario) hit a double off the center field fence to score Younkin and Ventura.

The Blue Devils tied the game in the top of the second 3-3 and took the lead after they scored fours runs in the top of the third. LTU added one more run in the top of the fourth and three runs in the top of the sixth.

In the bottom of the sixth, Raleigh Wilson (SR/Harrison Township, MI) led the inning off with a double into right field and advanced to third on a balk. Travis Tarrence (JR/West Branch, MI) earned a RBI after a groundout that scored Wilson. William Da Costa and Antonio Carta (FR/Allen Park, MI) each singled through the right side. Chase Turner (SO/Birmingham, MI) doubled to deep left field to earn 2 RBI’s. Richie Velez hit a stand-up double to score Turner from second base.The Mustangs cut the lead down 11-7.

In the top of the eighth, LTU scored three runs to increase their lead 14-7.

The Mustangs were unable to score again and lost 14-7.
