Mustangs Swept In Doubleheader on Senior Day by LTU

UTICA, Mich. — The Marygrove College baseball team hosted the Lawrence Technological University Blue Devils this afternoon for a senior day doubleheader. The day was bittersweet as the seniors were honored for their impressive careers sporting the Mustangs uniform. Marygrove lost both games 9-7, 9-4.

GAME ONE- (LOSS, 9-7)

OVERALL- The Mustangs (5-21, 4-9 WHAC) trailed 7-0 going into the sixth inning and battled back by scoring four runs. Juan Ventura (SR/Lawerence, MA) hit a single to score Richie Velez (SR/Chicago, IL) and Chase Turner (SO/Birmingham, MI). Raleigh Wilson (SR/Harrison Township, MI) hit a single to score Chase Younkin (SR/Macomb, MI) from third base. Travis Tarrence (JR/West Branch, MI) earned a RBI after he grounded out shortstop and scored Juan Ventura. In the bottom of the eighth, Chase Younkin singled and advanced to second on an error which scored Richie Velez. Wilson singled up the middle to score Chase Younkin. Travis Tarrence grounded out to third base but earned a RBI after Juan Ventura score on the play at the plate. LTU scored two runs in the top of ninth and the Mustangs failed to counter.

The Mustangs earned five hits off of the Blue Devils pitching staff.

GAME TWO- (LOSS, 9-4) 

OVERALL- The Mustangs (5-21, 4-9 WHAC) jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning, followed by two more runs scored in the second inning. The Blue Devils scored a run in the top of the fourth inning cutting the lead 4-1. In the top of the sixth, LTU scored four runs to take the lead 5-4. In the bottom of the sixth, Daniel Dayfield (SO/Brownstown, MI) started the inning off with a stand-up double and ended up stranded at third base. In the top of the eighth, LTU scored four more runs to take a 9-4 lead. The Mustangs were unable to score the rest of the game and lost 9-4.
