Slow Start Plagues Comeback Effort as Mustangs Drop Road Contest to Madonna, 86-73
After falling behind 30-4 at the end of one quarter, Marygrove heated up from the field and played inspired basketball as it ultimately dropped the road contest to Madonna 86-73. With the loss, Marygrove now sits at 4-22 (1-17 WHAC) as it enters the final four-game stretch of the season.
The bulk of the Mustangs’ points were produced by three players, as Elisha Major (24 points), Breanna Thomas (21 points) and Teonna Pope (21 points) led the Mustangs comeback effort that came up short. Thomas also added nine rebounds.
Madonna (13-9, 13-5 WHAC) was paced by Becca Sobol, who scored 26 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Three other Crusaders posted double-digit scoring efforts.
The Mustangs return to the hardwood on Wednesday (Feb. 10) as they host Lourdes University at 6 p.m. at the Northwest Activities Center.Â
