MIDLAND, Mich. — Another week of competition, another strong outing for the upstart Marygrove College women’s track team. Led by first-year head coach Cary Ossiff, the Mustangs enjoyed their second successful outing in as many weeks when all three competitors for the Green and Gold reached the finals in one or more competitions.

Rachel Staudt (Novi, Mich./Lawrence Tech) led the highly-successful day with an impressive showing in the javelin event Saturday (April 11) at the Northwood University Open. Staudt posted a finals throw of 26.46m on Saturday, an improvement of more than two meters off of last week’s performance at Alma College’s Charlie Gray Invitational. The 26.46m heave was good for fourth place in a loaded field that included NCAA Division II and fellow NAIA competition. Staudt also placed fourth in the javelin at last week’s Charlie Gray Invitational.

Younger sister Amber Staudt (Novi, Mich./Schoolcraft College) followed closely with a finals mark of 25.08m in the javelin.

Teammate Theresa Dray (Davison, Mich./Davison High School) placed 16th in the hammer throw, an event Ossiff is confident Dray could compete in at a national level in the near future. Dray checked in at 16th place after tossing the hammer 32.08m. Dray would later place 17th in the discus with a throw of 25.88m to chime in right behind [Rachel] Staudt who placed 16th after a finals throw of 27.54m.

In the shot put, Dray led the Mustangs with a ninth-place finish after eclipsing 10 meters with a toss of 10.73m. [Rachel] Staudt finished closely behind Dray in 10th place with a throw of 9.58m while [Amber] Staudt checked in with a 12th place finish after tossing the shot put 8.30m.
