Crockett, Houston Begin Indoor Season Saturday at Findlay

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

DETROIT — Two familiar faces, Robert Crockett and Marcell Houston, will hit the track Saturday (Jan. 24) at the Findlay University Classic for first-year head coach Tiberia Patterson. The indoor event marks the collegiate head coaching debut for Patterson, a long-time assistant at the NCAA Division I level, as he enters Crockett and Houston in the season-opening event against a deep field in Findlay, Ohio.

Veterans on the Marygrove track & field scene, both Crockett and Houston will visit Findlay’s indoor facility for the third time as they aim to start the 2015 campaign strong. The pair will enter the one-mile event in Saturday’s classic, an event that is host to 37 participants.

Crockett (Detroit, Mich./King High School) will look to build off last year’s indoor season-ending meet – the WHAC Championships – where he set a season-high in the mile with a time of 4:56.33. The sub-five minute time was a first for Crockett during the 2014 campaign and was seven second shy of his personal best time of 4:49 set at the 2013 Mike Lints Open hosted by Grand Valley State University.

The mile event is not a mainstay for Houston (Detroit, Mich./Mumford High School), a student-athlete that has plenty of experience in the 400, 600 and 800m events. Despite only running the mile a handful of times previously at the collegiate level, Houston, like Crockett, is aiming for a sub-five minute time to begin the indoor season under coach Patterson’s tutelage.

A full recap of Crockett and Houston’s day will be posted on marygrovemustangs.com as soon as results are made available from Findlay.
