THE LAST TIME THEY MET
Tuesday’s (Nov. 11) non-conference tilt at Goshen (Ind.) will mark the first meeting between the programs on the hardwood. Last year, the Mustangs swept Kuyper in a home-and-home for their only wins of the season. Siena Heights did the exact opposite, beating the Mustangs in Detroit and in Adrian.

A LOOK AT GOSHEN
A 1997 Michigan State graduate, fourth-year head coach Stephanie Miller has the Leafs out to a 2-1 start this season behind wins against Holy Cross (Ind.) and Marygrove’s WHAC counterpart, Aquinas. Jo’Mani Thomas leads the Leafs, averaging 13.7 points per game.

A LOOK AT KUYPER
The Kuyper College Cougars will look to build off of their 4-17 campaign last year when they hit the court under new, interim head coach Derrick Owens. The schedule will make the task a bit easier as the Cougars open the 2014-15 season playing eight of their first nine contests at home.

A LOOK AT SIENA HEIGHTS
Sue Syljebeck returns for her 11th season on the Siena Heights sideline to lead a Saints squad that has garnered national attention over the past three seasons. The Saints open up this season at No. 16 in the NAIA Coaches Poll and will begin play Nov. 13 at Spring Arbor.

COACH COV’S CORNER
“I was proud of the way we started last weekend,” remarked second-year head coach Craig Covington in regards to the women’s performance at the Cincinnati Christian University Tip-Off Classic. “We have a roster full of new faces and playing styles, so the first few games I thought would be a challenge for us. While we didn’t win the games, I feel the team molded together a bit quicker than I had originally anticipated,” continued Covington. “We have a tough week ahead of us with four games, including the WHAC home opener against Siena Heights and an exhibition game at NCAA D1 Detroit-Mercy. Without question, this is a big week for us moving forward.”

HOME OPENER IS SATURDAY
After playing four games away from home to open the season, the Mustangs will finally hit the Motor City hardwood Saturday (Nov. 15) when NAIA No. 16 Siena Heights visits Detroit for a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference showdown at 1 p.m.

WEAVER’S FAST START
Senior guard Raeha Weaver has shot out to an impressive start to the 2014-15 campaign, averaging 23 points per game through two contests. The speedy guard is averaging 15 more points per outing this year compared to 2013-14 when she dropped in 7.6 per game. Weaver’s stellar points per game average has been padded by back-to-back career-high games for the senior. Weaver poured in a then career-high 19 points in the season-opening setback to Cincinnati Christian before trumping that mark 24 hours later against Asbury. In the Asbury game, Weaver posted a career-best 27 points thanks to an 11-for-13 night from the free throw line.
