Mustangs Clobber Cardinals for Home-Opening Win
DETROIT, Mich.-A ruckus crowd of nearly 200 came to witness Mustang Basketball on Tuesday. The Mustangs put on a show for the audience as they took advantage of the visitor early and often on their way to an 89-46 rout of Andrews University.
The Mustangs welcomed back junior forward Ebony Jackson for Tuesday’s home-opener after missing her for Saturday’s contest. Last season’s scoring leader wasted no time in getting back to her old ways with a team-high 12 point performance. The active forward also added an impressive 7 steals, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocks in 19 minutes of action.
Freshman forward Keara Marks equaled Jackson’s team-high total with 12 and added a team-high 9 rebounds. Keara Wilson joined her fellow forwards in double-figures with 10.
The balanced attack led to a decisive 49-17 halftime tally.
A strong second half followed up a performance that led to a 36-point halftime lead. In the end, Coach Hitchcock and the Mustangs rolled to an 89-46 home-opening rout that places them in the win column for the 2009-2010 season.
The Mustangs forced the Cardinals into 25 turnovers and out-rebounded the visitor by a 52-29 margin.
Other Mustangs performances to note where: Dominique Gordon with nine points, four rebounds, and four assists; Arielle Edwards eight points in eight minutes; and Santrea Bush with eight points. Jacquis Bullock added five assists.
