Mustangs Add Derrick from Garden City
DETROIT, MI–Mustang women’s soccer continued the hot streak of signings when they inked their second student-athlete in as many days on Thursday afternoon. Garden City’s Karlee Derrick became the latest to join the Mustangs strong recruiting class for the fast approaching 2009 season.
Derrick comes to Marygrove as a heralded defender with experience in a great soccer conference (Mega Conference). The four-year letter winner and three-year starter was the face of Garden City girl’s soccer for the past few seasons. Improving every year, Derrick earned Most Improved Player in 2008 and Most Valuable Player in 2009. Her play also earned her back-to-back First Team All-District her junior and senior seasons. During her senior campaign, Derrick capped off an impressive career by earning First Team All-Mega Conference and First Team All-Observerland honors.
Coach Williams on Derrick: Karlee is a highly skilled player that will give us a huge presence on the field. She was rewarded for her outstanding play during her career in high school from many outlets. A player like Karlee instantly made us a better team from the moment she signed. Her enthusiasm and passion for the game is shared by many of her new teammates. I look forward to coaching Karlee over the next four years.
